I’ll be honest, I’ve had it for years. As a young boy, I played with it late into the night, discovering how it worked, and it was often the first thing I grabbed in the morning. As a teenager, I couldn’t stop myself! It was so addicting! Friends and i would get together and see who could finish the fastest! Then, like most things, I payed less and less attention to it. It grew dusty and I only brought it out for special occasions, usually when I found it, and was bored. The novelty had faded, and it sat in a box, on a shelf in my basement. Until just recently
I am of course referring to the fad of the 80′s called Rubik’s Cube…what did you think I was talking about?
On a recent trip to the local toy store I found one, brand new in a box. It was very inexpensive, so I purchased it and brought it home. I had remembered how to solve 3/4 of it by myself, but the final elusive steps seemed out of my recall. It was, afterall, some 20 years later!
But with the help of this book:
..and a youtube video, I completed the cube once again. In upcoming posts, I’ll discuss how a Rubik’s Cube, even just playing with it, not necessarily solving it, can help improve your memory. For now though, just head down to your box of old memorabilia, fads, and fashions, put on some tunes by Culture Club, or Cindy Lauper, or Ratt and dust off your old friend. Hey, if you haven’t got a cube, take a walk on down to your local toy store, and pick one up.
Enjoy the memories!
